Twas the night before Christmas and all through our house, things are being stirred, cookies, candy, and a meat dish from Argentina. The sun is shining, no snow in sight, if I’m not mistaken, Tennessee might be confusing its weather pattern with Florida, at 67* it feels like March instead of December.
As this decade runs out the bottom of its hourglass, I look back in astonishment how ten years could fly by so quickly and has changed so much in this old world. From Good Luck Charley, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Harry Potter, to name a few movies produced. We lost some people as well, Whitney Houston, Prince, Tom Petty, B.B. King, Merle Haggard, George Michael, Robin Williams, Elizabeth Taylor, and Shirley Temple, among many others. As we turn the page in a few short days to a brand-new decade, what will the future bring?
My mind wanders back to Christmas past when our children were so small, and in wide-eyed wonderment on Christmas morning, they waited with excited energy to tear their presents open. Now they are all grown up and still eager for Christmas to arrive. They take over my kitchen, making messes and yummy food.
Christmas is a time of year when everyone gets super busy with buying presents, decorating, cooking and having family get-togethers. Not everyone has this luxury; the ones that come to the forefront of my mind are, our the United States Armed Forces and their families. The troops have Christmas dinners far away from their loved ones, and as they video chat with one another, I’m sure many tears are shed. Their families go on with gatherings, yet their hearts long for fathers and brothers, mothers and daughters to be near.
As the evening draws to a close, wrap your loved ones in warm hugs and kiss a lover under the mistletoe. Make sure the stockings are hung with care and set out cookies and milk for father….. eerrrr Santa Clause. HO-HO-HO Merry Christmas Y’all and A Happy New Year. Sleep tight and peek out the window tonight; you may see Rudolf and company gliding across the sky. {WINK}
